Dear Classical Mind community,
Happy July! With the arrival of a new month, we have five announcements for you.
1) A Book Shuffle
As many of you know, Brothers Karamazov is a bear. Given the length of the book and some external circumstances (see announcement #3), we have decided to swap the July and August books. Our next episode will be on Homer’s Iliad. The August episode will be Brothers Karamazov.
2) Iliad Release Date
Given the shift in schedule and the fact that this coming Tuesday is July 4th (Happy Independence Day to all who celebrate), we are going to have to push back the release date for that episode to Tuesday, July 11.
3) Host Lineup Changes
After some serious discussion, we have decided that Jared Henderson will be leaving the podcast. As many of you know, Jared runs a successful YouTube channel and recently had a baby! We wish him the best of luck and thank him for being a part of the Classical Mind!
Replacing him in the host lineup is Dr. Junius Johnson. We talked with Dr. Johnson before in our inaugural newsletter way back in November 2022 about the relationship between reason and imagination. Dr. Johnson is a Yale-trained scholar of theology, philosophy, and literature who devotes his time to thinking and writing about whatever is good, noble, and excellent, and how to bring these things to bear to nurture meaningful lives. He is a prolific writer, an engaging speaker, an inspiring teacher, and a passionate musician. We are thrilled to have him join the Classical Mind community!
4) A New Season on the Horizon
There’s a new season on the horizon! We formatted each season to run for 12 months with one main episode per month. We will continue that pace next season but need to select new books. Later this month or earlier next month, we will record a draft with our selections. Just like last year, we will have multiple opportunities for our supporters to have input in selecting some of the books so keep an eye out for that.
5) Thank You
As we wind down the first season, we thank you for supporting and engaging with us over the course of this first season. This community is made up of exceptional people. Our discussions have been enriching and I look forward to continuing them!

Excited for the Iliad discussion! I read the Lattimore translation in I think December ‘22 or January of this year and it fell flat for me, but I think it may be one of those works that grow on me the more I learn about them. I’ve been avoiding The Odyssey and The Aeneid because of my initial experience with The Iliad, but after reading the absolutely massive amounts of allusions to those three books in other works of literature that I love I’ve been feeling the need to go back.
Sad to see Jared go but hopeful for the future
